61) Read the following passage and answer the question given.
The Boston Tea party was not a tea party. It was the first major act of defiance of the part of the colonists against their British Rulers. It was a protest about the tax on tea, levied without representation in the British Parliament and against the monopoly of the East India Company. The British Parliament under King George III had imposed high taxes without representation of the British colonies. In the spring of 1773, the Tea Act was passed to support the East India Company so that it would overcome fiscal difficulties. This became intolerable act for the people in the American Colonies. In Boston harbour on 16 December 1773, a party of prominent citizens, disguised as Mohawk Indians, and secretly boarded ships that were laden with tea. They threw 340 chests of tea owned by the East India Company overboard. This paved way for further resistance. The Boston Tea Party was a prelude to the American War of Independence and perhaps the beginning of a nation of coffee drinkers.
